At what age can my child start taking classes?
Children as young as 3 1/2 years old are eligible to take courses. We offer mixed classes where families may participate together.
How safe is it to learn?
Tiger Kim’s Taekwondo program is safe and fun for students of all ages and physical abilities. Classes are supervised by certified black belt instructors. All students are taught techniques in a step by step manner and at their own pace. a thorough stretching routine, official Olympic sized matted flooring, and the use of protective safety equipment are all part of our commitment to ensuring student safety. You will also find our instructors to be friendly, patient, enthusiastic and great motivators.
How much are your tuition or membership fees?
Because we custom tailor our course plans for each individual student, we do not discuss tuition fees over the phone or the internet. If you are serious about becoming a student at our school, please call and set up an appointment and visit us during our normal business hours. We can then discuss a flexible workout regiment and fee schedule that will maximize the potential for you to succeed.
*Beware of martial arts schools offering courses at extremely low prices. Instructors at these schools tend to go through the motions, but don’t provide any real expertise, knowledge, and techniques to improve your skills. Remember, you get what you pay for!
What if I never did martial arts before or if I am currently out of shape?
At Tiger Kim’s Academy, we have ongoing enrollment, so beginners are always welcome. Our special Introduction program makes it easy for new students of all fitness levels to get started. First time students receive one on one instruction designed to answer common questions and provide an introduction to the basics of Tae Kwon Do. In addition the belt system used in Olympic Taekwondo allows all students to train at their own pace and to improve their physical condition gradually.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No, but most of our students do commit to an extended-length course. Depending on what rank you wish to achieve, we offer various short-term and long-term course plans.
How often do students attend classes and how flexible is the schedule?
In order to attain benefits and progress at a reasonable rate we recommend that students attend classes two to three times per week. Our convenient location and full time staff allow us to offer an extremely flexible unlimited class schedule. Classes for all levels and ages are held several times a day six days a week and students are able to choose the classes that work out best for them.
Does your school participate in tournaments and competitions?
Yes, our students participate in state, and national competitions. We also host the America ’s Cup Martial arts Open Championship. But it is not a requirement for your training.
I achieved a belt rank at another school. Can I start at that rank at your school?
Generally this is possible, you must provide proof of rank such as a certificate of rank from your past martial arts school. However, if you don’t have this, when you come in we can evaluate your past training and recommend a proper starting rank that is commensurate with your experience. Accelerated courses are available for those with previous Tae Kwon Do experience.
How long does it take to become a Black Belt?
The Black Belt in Taekwondo is symbolic of an advanced level of skill as well as above average physical, mental, and emotional strength. The length of study necessary to attain a Black Belt varies depending on ones? effort and dedication. On average, our students train for a period of three to three and a half years to attain Black Belt status.
How long does it take to start seeing results?
Studying Taekwondo has lifelong benefits and is designed to be a lifelong study. However, initial benefits start appearing after a few months of consistent practice. Children begin to show improved listening, confidence, and self discipline. Adults gain more energy and feel healthier. Over time, the benefits become even more apparent and dramatic. As with learning any skill, consistent attendance and personal effort make a big impact on ones? knowledge and rate of progress.
